Not only are wedding rings valuable pieces of jewelry, but they’re also sentimental items that symbolize a couple’s commitment to one another. That’s why one woman started panicking when her sparkler, a thick diamond band, went missing—before finding it in an unlikely place. The woman’s daughter, Michaela, documented the whirlwind journey on TikTok in a post on March 10, 2024, that has gone viral with 7.8 million views.
Michaela started the video by explaining what prompted the search. “My mom called me crying yesterday morning saying she lost her diamond ring…” the text on the screen says. According to the video, at first, she feared the worst-case scenario, but then, she noticed that her dog was “acting funny,” so she speculated that her furry friend might have swallowed her special accessory.
To test the theory, Michaela reached out to her cousin and asked if they could borrow his metal detector. Once they received the device, Michaela’s dad swiped the dog. When the tool reaches their pet’s stomach, it beeps at a rapid pace. At the end of the video, Michaela confirmed that her dog did in fact eat her mom’s wedding ring by posting a video of an X-ray of the dog’s stomach. “Suspicion confirmed,” the text said. “She ate it.”
Many TikTok users who viewed the video found humor in the situation. “A diamond in the ruff,” one account owner quipped. Another person joked, “Diamonds are a dog’s best friend.” Others commiserated with Michaela by sharing similar tales. “Well, my friend’s dog ate my front teeth/bridge,” someone shared. Someone else recounted, “My dog ate my mom’s anxiety meds out of the bottom of the trash.”
In a follow-up video, Michaela updated her followers and viewers, letting them know that her mom successfully retrieved her wedding ring. In her photo post, Michaela uploaded a picture of her dog sitting innocently on the hardwood floor before sharing a few images of the inside of her stomach. The carousel ends with a close-up photo of her mom’s diamond wedding band wedged on her left ring finger. “My mom swears she cleaned it 100 times,” Michaela clarified.
